Monthly Training Fees and BAA Membership

The cost of your training sessions is spread over the year by setting up a Monthly Standing Order of £25.00 (£15.00 if you are under 18 years of age), which pays for four or five training sessions per month.  And we offer a special Family Rate of £50/month, which pays for TWO adults and up to TWO youngsters Under 18.  The club’s bank details are in the Welcome Pack which you receive at the start of your training with us.

The only other one-off expense when you join will be your first year’s membership of the British Aikido Association (BAA), which is required for insurance and grading purposes.  Current fees can be found on the BAA website: in 2024, the adult fee is £35/year and the Under 18s’ fee is £25/year.  Once you have been a member of the BAA for a year, your renewal fees are paid for by the club.

We try to keep things simple, so there are NO subscription charges or joining fees, and you can join at any time of the year.

Other Costs

Aikido doesn’t require expensive outfits or training equipment. After your first two or three training sessions with us, you’ll need to order a training outfit (called a gi) which costs between £15 and £25, depending on your size and style preference. Your club and BAA badges are supplied free, and these just need to be sewn onto the gi.

Training weapons will be required during your training, but these can be purchased at a later date or you can train with the club’s. Our Welcome Pack has all the details and current prices.

When a number of students are ready to progress to the next belt colour, we convene a grading (often with an external examiner to ensure grade consistency) and new belts are awarded to those who grade successfully.
